WASHINGTON, D.C. (NOV. 23, 2011) — Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA) President and CEO, Ralph G. Neas, today issued the following statement regarding the death this week of Eli Hurvitz, the former CEO of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries.

“We were deeply saddened to learn that Eli Hurvitz had passed away,” Neas said. “Mr. Hurvitz was a true giant in the pharmaceutical industry, both here in the U.S. and around the globe. For more than three decades he guided Teva through periods of amazing growth, which transformed the company into the world’s largest generic drug producer and one of the top 10 overall pharmaceutical manufacturers.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Dalia, and their children, and with the entire Teva family.”

GPhA represents the manufacturers and distributors of finished generic pharmaceuticals, manufacturers and distributors of bulk pharmaceutical chemicals, and suppliers of other goods and services to the generic industry. Generic pharmaceuticals fill 78 percent of the prescriptions dispensed in the U.S. but consume just 25 percent of the total drug spending. Additional information is available at gphaonline.org.
